1969 Superformance GT40 MKI
GT40 P/2468 MKI Extra Wide Body
The GT40 set the racing world on fire in the 1960s as Ford threw down the gauntlet to challenge Ferrari at Le Mans and other top endurance races. The GT40's impact has not lessened over the years, with each sighting just as head-turning as it was when the cars first roared down the Mulsanne straight.
This Superformance GT40 MKI is mixes a lot of the old with some of the new. The car features the 1969 Extra Wide Body configuration along with the custom satin black HRE wheels (18” Front, 19” Rear) wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires with Ruffian center lock nuts. Taller drivers will appreciate the Gurney Bubble on the driver's side, so named that 6'4” lanky Dan Gurney could fit inside the cockpit of the 40-inch tall race car. The MKI is finished in Monza Red. A custom carbon fiber “Future GT Forty” front splitter and canards provide aerodynamic grip at the nose and match nicely with the black Gurney Tab on the back.
This car is powered by a Roush 427IR bored and stroked Windsor engine with 8 stack electronic fuel injection making over 560HP. It is as visually impressive as it is powerful, with black ceramic coated “bundle of snakes” and polished stainless steel megaphone exhaust. The engine is paired with a Quaife Ford GT40 5-speed transaxle gearbox. Hydraulic struts on the rear clam shell make showing off this incredible engine bay a breeze. Wilwood disc brakes provide enough stopping power for road and track.
Every drive will be memorable from within the full leather interior with modern style seats with the silver grommets throwing a nod to the past. Dynamat sound deadening and heat dissipation tame the rough edges of the original race car for a more comfortable drive. Electronic custom gauges provide an updated version of form and function. A front end lift system and custom rear view camera make cruising around town a real pleasure. Speaking of pleasures, the cockpit includes air conditioning, heater and defroster with the controls hidden in the driver side door to keep the dash layout period correct.
Authenticity was the Superformance engineers' goal when re-creating the GT40. It carries the GT40/P chassis number and is built to the exact standards of the car back in the 1960s. It is so authentic that over two thirds of the rolling chassis parts are interchangeable with the original GT40s.
GT40 P/2468 combines the best of the past with enough modern touches to fit in at the paddock of a vintage race or showing off in front of the most modern supercars. It is titled in Florida as a 2023 SPCNS with less than a thousand miles on the odometer and is currently available for $309,950.
